The Pianobabbler's Companion to "The Touring Test: Trials of Musicians' Travels"
November 04 2010

Welcome to The Pianobabbler's Companion. Every Monday, the Pianobabbler writes his- as the Pianobabbler.com title puts it - Blog in the Life of a Musician. In The Pianobabbler's Companion I supplement the Monday post with some video, or audio or writing that unpacks, elaborates, enhances my Monday morceau.

Last Monday The Pianobabbler babbled about The Touring Test: Trials of Musicians' Travels. Touring is both the lifeblood and the life-drain of the musician.

The superb jazz pianist Hal Galper has written a practical guide to touring for musicians: The Touring Musician: A Small-Business Approach to Booking Your Band on the Road.

The book is not only useful for musicians. It also give an insight into the scope and challenges of touring. It shines a light onto the realities of being a musician. A worthwhile antidote to non-musicians romantic conceptions.
