Welcome to The Pianobabbler's Companion. Every Monday, the Pianobabbler writes his- as the Pianobabbler.com title puts it - Blog in the Life of a Musician. In The Pianobabbler's Companion I supplement the Monday post with some video, or audio or writing that unpacks, elaborates, enhances my Monday morceau.
Last Monday The Pianobabbler babbled about Bach in December: Joe's Month. The Pianobabbler's message: how the majesty of J. S. ("Joe") Bach's music takes on a special power, warmth and attraction in December.
Maybe NPR's Brian McReath was reading the Pianobabbler, maybe not. But, as though he were, Mr. McReath has published a list of the 5 top Bach recordings of 2010.
The list is interesting itself, but I especially appreciate Mr. McReath's opening sentence:
When interviewing musicians, I'm constantly struck by how many of them tell me that J.S. Bach's music is a key touchstone of their musical identity.
Add the Pianobabbler to that touchstone inventory, Mr. McRreath. And thank you for your Bach inventory.
