On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the 10th, 11th and 12th, Ron with be with one of Canada's bright new stars, Brandi Disterheft,  on bass. Brandi's been earning deserved praise from around the world, for her energy and musicality.

It will be a busy time- while Ron plays at Opal, thousands of musicians and teachers will be in Toronto for the International Association for Jazz Education's annual conference. So please be sure to reserve a place early at Opal and join Ron for these exciting evenings of music.

Like many other musicians, Ron was deeply influenced by the late Glenn Gould . Not only a great pianist, whose recordings of Bach and others set the standard, Gould was an astonishingly original thinker, writer and broadcaster.

It is a special honour for Ron to have been elected last month to the Board of the Glenn Gould Foundation.  The Foundation's goal is "to extend awareness of Glenn Gould as an extraordinary musician and communicator, and to advance his innovative ideas into the future." Ron is excited to help carry on this work.

The Glenn Gould Foundation is a charitable organization. Ron strongly encourages support of its work. Details: www.glenngould.ca .

Oscar Peterson is Gone

Another major influence on Ron's music was Canada's Oscar Peterson. With Oscar's passing on Christmas Eve, at the age of 82, music lost a brilliant pianist, composer, and one of the defining voices in jazz.

We want to join in the tributes from across the world, and express our sadness at the loss of this musical titan. Thank you Oscar. Thank you for so much, and for everything.
