"Pianist Ron Davis ... brings it all together, working in close harmony with his band to create an impressive musical palette.... lyrical... stunning... compelling listening." AllAboutJazz.com

"Exceptionally gifted and eclectic , Toronto pianist Ron Davis seems like the living incarnation of the perpetuum mobile, buzzing from flower to flower following his successive projects as they emerge, straight from the heart. But there is one constant with him: pleasure. [...]  the greatest pleasure of this album is to hear how much these musicians, selected from amongst the outsized talent of the Toronto scene, invest not only their technique, but also their humour and their heart, in this enterprise. [...]  With [Ron], velocity is the natural product of exuberance, enabling him to channel - and to share, always - the unstoppable torrent of ideas accompanying it, the every swirl of which his accomplices negotiate with aplomb. It bears clarifying that, for all its frequent spillovers, the music of Ron Davis is always of an exemplary structural rigour.[...] he produces his own recordings, steering his ship with courage and integrity, amusing with his muse, and satisfying his audiences all along. Subarashii and hats off, Mr. Davis!"  l'Express.

"On every song of this new album, Subarashii Live, we hear Ron's great virtuosity, and he made sure to compose songs where all his musicians sounded their best ! I just loved his latin rhythms! And everybody who know Ron are aware of his great humour, he loves to play with words... We can find this humour in Applausable Excuse. He also take his public by surprise with a traditional quebecoise reel for which he created the arrangements : The Reel de Pointe-au-Pic. You must buy this CD!"  Claudette Gravel, Radio-Canada (CJBC)

Shimmering Rhythm (2005- Davinor 3455): one of 2005’s best CDs
JAZZ.FM, CODA Magazine, Zeitgeist, l’Express

Mungle Music (2004- Davinor 1321): one of 2004’s best CDs
CBC, CODA Magazine, Radio Canada

The term tour de force has often been used to describe a lot of things that aren’t, but Shimmering Rhythm qualifies for the honor ten times over... Shimmering Rhythm is delightfully varied, expertly composed and performed, and retains a universal appeal without selling itself or the listener short. This is the kind of album that, for any number of reasons, could easily slip past the international jazz scene’s peripheral vision - which would be a shame, because it has the potential to win converts while entertaining veteran listeners.
All About Jazz

I was greatly taken with his last CD, ‘Mungle Music’, and was delighted to pop this into the music playing machine. Especially when the joyous opening track, ‘Rhythmaron’ is such a sparkling piece, with fingers flying over the piano in tribute to Gershwins ‘I Got Rhythm’. But this is no one trick pony as the Trio take on board a battalion of guests (the Shimmering Rhythm) and an astonishing range of sounds. From the gospel like ‘Oratio’ to the latin influenced ‘Jeanamora’, on to the astonishing Passover tune, ‘Chassal Siddur Pesach’, the Welsh hymn arranged by Vaughn Williams, ‘Rhosymedre’ and the stunning rendition of the Jerome Kern classic, ‘The Way You Look Tonight’, this is an outstanding, fresh and life affirming piece of work, and one of the most enjoyable jazz releases of 2005.
Zeitgeist

Toronto’s ... Ron Davis Trio has been one of Canada’s hottest acts in both bop and pop circles for many years, and it’s obvious why. Offering the daring stabs of Monk and the lushly evocative swoops of Art Tatum, pianist Davis’s bold runs crackle with confidence, and his flawless upright-and-drums backup illuminates every note!

Mungle Music - Brilliant Album... well-paced from reflective to very uptempo, detailing Davis’ virtuosity, taste, and knowledge of the piano.

Pianist Davis shows off his percussive (and writing) abilities on 14 cuts here, with the effervescent Ted Warren on drums and solid bass player Drew Birston. Listening to Davis, you get strong echoes of early Dave Brubeck... but he always shows off other areas of interest in his rigorous, well-crafted creations.
Toronto Star (about Soloduotrio)

The Ron Davis Trio scored big with its 2002 sophomore release So Much... Davis - alongside Drew Birston (bass), Ted Warren (drums) and Richard Underhill guesting on sax - turns up the heat for Mungle Music without sacrificing the pure tone and harmonic clarity of his keyboards. The Toronto based pianist is a master of the musical rope-a dope: one minute he’s gently caressing the notes, creating sonic bliss, and the next, he’s ripping off rapid-fire runs that would make Errol Garner smile.

CBC - After Hours (about Soloduotrio)

Davis’s admiration for Tatum, a jazz player whose technique impressed many classical musicians, is reflected in his own command of the keyboard and virtuoso flourishes. Like Tatum, he is capable of transforming popular songs with elaborate variations. The Davis touch on familiar tunes also makes him a fixture on CBC Radio.
